Sharing
1. Albert gives us a summary about current Children Ministry (CM) status.
l Friday Night: 1st to 6 grades, average 5-6 students. Toddlers: average 2
l Special meetings: 1st to 6 grades, average 8 students. Toddlers: average 5
l Sunday: 1st to 6 grades, average 5-6 students. Toddlers: average 2
2. Albert shared the advantages and disadvantages of current Children Ministry (CM): Advantage:
l Parents willing to send their children to the class to learn
l Teachers are committed
l Students are eager to learn
Disadvantage:
l Students are few, hard to motivate their interests
l The 1st grades to 6 grades class, due to big age gaps makes teaching difficult
l Teachers are willing to teach, but don’t know how to teach
l No system could follow, hard to adjust the class when teachers need to find substitutes.
Other Teachers comments:
l Hard to teach toddlers due to their short attention span, teachers feel frustrated, instead of teaching more like babysit.
l Friday night is very hard to teach, due to many times the adults program starts too late; last Friday adults did not finish their program until 10:00pm. It’s hard for both teachers and students to have a two and half hours long class.
l It is hard for Sunday school teachers to pick up the class and teach right after their worship time; most of time children are still in their snack break. How to handle the transition time could be a challenge.
After discussions following decisions were made:
1. Starts from 2nd quarter ( April 5th),
· Three Sunday classes (both SW and SS) will be re-divided. New age group will be:
Class 1: 0-3 years old Class 2: Kindergartners(from 4 years old) to 2nd grades Class 3: 3rd to 6 grades
· Sunday worship time will be in 3 sections: 10:00 -10:30 am singing, 10:30-11:00am teaching, 11:00-11:30am crafts.
2. For now, Wang Hui and Sandy will work with Amy for the “30 minutes craft time” it will be on a trial basis. Starts in 2nd quarter, the craft time will be scheduled in the routine Sunday Worship. Cerina will coordinate with Amy about this change, and follow up with Wang Hui and Sandy.
3. Cerina’s roll
· Ensure a system is in place. (1) Remind teachers about the Sunday school class time make sure the class will be started on time. Sunday School class is from 11:30am to 12:30pm. If Adult Worship passed 11:30am, teachers have to leave the worship early and go the classroom before the class started. In another word, Sunday school teachers have to be in the classroom at 11:30am, 15 minutes to get the class ready, and the teaching time is from 11:45 to12:30pm. (2) Coordinator in between teachers, students/parents.
· Cerina will coordinate with Amy and in helping her for the 1st half hours worship sing time. Cerina will check out for some children music instruments, so the children may sing and play during their worship. Cerina will put this to the announcement and seek for possibilities of church brothers and sisters donations.
· Cerina will help in sending “Miss You” cards, birthday special etc to students. Encouraging teachers and keep an open communications channel make sure teachers and students are in good teaching and learning conditions.
4. Suggestions on Friday night waiting situations: Set up 2 computers with monitors and some computer games for children to play. Cerina will ask the congregations to donate their old games, computers and monitors. Children Ministry will screen all the games.
5. To help Albert’s class, Linda will start to sit in his class and co-teach. The goal is to train more available teachers for all levels of classes.
6. Pauline 禱告/祝福 Prayer & Benedictions
